And here is the finished spread. I feel so happy and free, back to creating my art. ❤️❤️
Ok, these are the $1.99 paints by craftsmart. Silver gray, deep peach, and ground cinnamon. These are fun, especially for the price. They blend easily with each other and with gesso. I may have to go back and get more of these!
This dark blue is the Artc texture cream. On left, applied with brush. On right, with pallet knife. I really like the pallet knife with it. It has a sandpaper feel. Used a heatgun to dry it,and that worked fine. Otherwise it would take a while to dry since it’s so thick. They have a FB page: artc mixed media
Here I have used a distress crayon on both base colors. They blended in really well.
I used the Art tubes (from Hungary) for the stencils, which is a good use for them since they are only one ounce. The one on the left is Ultra Chalk; on right is metallic. I really like both– thick and easy to apply on a stencil with sponge.
These are process photos, trying out different materials. The green is DecoArt chalky finish in “refreshing” shade. The darker shade is “cocoon” in ArtMinds. The ArtMinds is heavier, thicker, and more easily applied. I needed to use a brush to apply the green. Both needed stirring.
I joined Instagram yesterday with the help of my daughter. While I was looking at it, she started playing A Whole New World on her phone! Lol
HOME–an assemblage I created today. I filled it with objects that symbolize home to me. A home is so much more than the place where we live. Each home has its own Spirit, filled with sounds, smells, and memories. Every room has its own character, its own atmosphere, and its own love. Every person who enters a home, leaves their footprints.
Art Journal. 8/17/16: innocence
Memories of my children and grandchildren when they were small and innocent–how they found joy in the smallest discoveries–how a single smile from them gave me hope–how amazing it was to experience the world from their innocent perspective. The world needs more of this.

Art Journal for today: Sugar and Spice. I ran across this photo today of my granddaughter at her birthday party when she was maybe 4 or 5. The sweetness of these little girls touched me. They are all teenagers now! But we always carry that innocence in our hearts.
Finally finished this diptych today. Title: Find Your Thread. It has one of my favorite quotes from Sue Monk Kidd, in her book, Dance of the Dissident Daughter. Difficult to see all the texture in the white area, but if you enlarge it, you’ll see it.

Art Journal March 29, 2016
A sampling of my new obsession: teensy houses. Each is about 2 inches tall. I found them a couple of years ago at Goodwill–a bag full of wooden houses for $3! They have been waiting patiently in my studio for me to get inspired. I have been using all kinds of materials, media, and doodads, and having a blast!
Art Journal 2/24/16. The day of the snowstorm that we never got. It snowed, but no accumulation. I was wishing that this was our last snow.
2/23/16 Art Journal –Playing around with the idea of houses. This was my inspiration for a collection of teensy houses. (Post coming up.)

Faded Memories
Found this photo in my stash–my brother and me, on one of his summer visits. Grandpa is wheeling us out to the barn, along with the milking machine and the milk cans. So many memories here: happiness, adventure, concern, the routine of milking the cows, the smell of hay and manure, uncertainty, the sound of WLS on the radio.
Art Journal Collage and Sketch 1/8/16
Inspired by a FB post I saw yesterday of a snowy owl.
I don’t often attempt sketches, but felt inspired today.

There’s nothing more striking than a male Cardinal on a wintry day. He seems to carry hope and joy with him, wherever he flies.
